MENTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION
Supervisor:
Program Coordinator
Qualifications:
Minimum age of 21 years
Ability to commit to one youth for one year
Access to phone and reliable transportation
Acceptable driving record and background check as defined by screening policy
Maintenance of current auto insurance
Ability to translate skills and lessons learned through physical activity and goal-setting into every day life
Understand and agree to Bolder Options Volunteer Policies
Patience with various youth abilities and social skills
Respect confidentiality of youth and families
Willingness to participate in running and/or cycling activities (all abilities welcome)
Application Process:
Submit volunteer application
Mentor interview
Personal reference check
Criminal and motor vehicle record check
Acceptance
New mentor orientation
Responsibilities:
Complete application process shown above
Commit to a one-year match with one youth, meeting 2-4 hours a week
Meet program coordinator, youth and family in their home for the match introduction
Take mentee to pick out a pair of running shoes or a bike & helmet (provided by Bolder Options)
Attend Mentor Follow-Up Training within 4 months of match date
Attend program meetings and group activities with your mentee
Complete a minimum of three cycling or running events with your mentee
Attend graduation ceremony at the end of the one-year match
