What does it take to become a
Bolder Options mentor?
Passion.

If you have that, the rest is easy:

  • Start by taking 10 minutes to complete a volunteer application. We’ll contact your references and contact you about signing up for a mentor training date.
  • Next, attend a New Mentor orientation and training. You'll learn more about Bolder Options, gain an understanding of the expectations involved in our programs and learn the nitty-gritty details. Mentor Trainings are held monthly at our Minneapolis and Saint Paul locations.
  • Wait for us to match you with a mentee; we match adults and youth year-round for both our running and biking programs, and we ask all mentors to make a one-year commitment.
  • Meet with your mentee 2-4 hours a week for 1 year:
    • Run or bike together
    • Work on homework
    • Attend Program Meetings and group activities
    • Volunteer in the community
    • Complete 5K races or biking events
    • Help your mentee set and reach goals for running, biking, academic success—and life
    • Attend Graduation Ceremony at the end of your year together

To receive a volunteer application and program materials, please call our Volunteer Director at (612) 379-BOLD Ext. 221. Leave your first and last name and complete mailing address. You can also request information via e-mail by writing us at volunteer@bolderoptions.org
