Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator

Position Title: Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator

Salary: $48,000 - $58,000 Per Year, Full Time

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Agency Description: Bolder Options is a transformational mentoring program operating in the Twin Cities and Rochester. Our mission is to “prepare youth to succeed in all of life’s races.” We recruit adult volunteer mentors and pair them with young people ages 10–14 in one-year mentoring relationships focused on physical, social, and emotional wellness.

Bolder Options also supports alumni through career and college exploration, leadership development, internships, scholarships, and more. In 2023, we celebrated 30 years of mentoring impact and continue to build pathways that support youth through adolescence and into early adulthood.

Position Overview: The Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator advances the mission of Bolder Options by executing outreach, mentor recruitment, and volunteer engagement plans. This role focuses on front-end engagement, coordination, and execution—building pipelines of prospective mentors, corporate partners, and community volunteers and connecting them to meaningful opportunities with the organization.

While Program Coordinators retain primary responsibility for mentor screening, training, and match support, the Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator is cross-trained in core mentor onboarding processes to provide backup coverage and ensure shared understanding of the full mentor journey. This role also serves as the primary coordinator for corporate, group, short-term, and skills-based volunteer pathways that support fundraising, program activities, alumni programming, and organizational capacity.

This position includes a regular evening and/or weekend work component (approximately one evening or weekend commitment per week) to support outreach activities, volunteer engagement, and events. Scheduling is balanced with flexibility and a generous time-off policy.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Coordinate community outreach initiatives to increase awareness of and support for Bolder Options’ mission

  • Represent Bolder Options at community events, volunteer fairs, and outreach activities

  • Support relationships with businesses and community organizations aligned with volunteer engagement and recruitment goals

  • Assist with alumni outreach and engagement efforts in collaboration with program staff

  • Support social media and marketing efforts related to volunteer recruitment and community engagement

2. Mentor Recruitment & Early Engagement

  • Execute the annual mentor recruitment strategy in collaboration with program and communications staff

  • Coordinate tabling and outreach at corporate events, volunteer fairs, and community gatherings

  • Conduct initial informational calls or meetings with prospective mentors

  • Follow up with interested mentor candidates and manage early-stage engagement

  • Coordinate mentor information sessions and recruitment-related events

  • Track recruitment activity and support evaluation of outreach effectiveness

  • Coordinate warm handoff of interested mentor candidates to Program Coordinators for screening, training, and match support

3. Mentor Onboarding Support & Cross-Training

  • Manage mentor background checks and related documentation in accordance with organizational policies

  • Participate in mentor interviews and orientations as needed to provide coverage and support

  • Co-facilitate or support mentor training sessions as assigned

  • Maintain working knowledge of mentor screening, training, and matching processes to ensure continuity and collaboration

  • Provide backup support during peak recruitment periods or staff absences

4. Volunteer Engagement & Coordination (Corporate, Group, Short-Term, and Skills-Based)

  • Coordinate a range of non-mentoring volunteer pathways that support Bolder Options’ programs, events, alumni initiatives, and organizational capacity

  • Engage corporate and community partners in group volunteer activities aligned with fundraising, program support, and special projects

  • Recruit, prepare, and communicate with short-term, episodic, and skills-based volunteers, including but not limited to:

  • Career coaches and career exploration volunteers

  • Short-term or event-based mentors

  • Alumni support volunteers (e.g., transportation, event support)

  • Ambassadors and members of a community speaking pool

  • Pro bono and skills-based volunteers (e.g., marketing, finance, HR, IT, legal)

  • Develop clear role descriptions, expectations, and preparation materials for each volunteer pathway

  • Coordinate scheduling, logistics, communication, and follow-up to ensure a positive and meaningful volunteer experience

  • Track volunteer engagement, participation, and feedback annually

  • Support volunteer recognition and appreciation efforts

**Note: Program Coordinators retain primary responsibility for mentor screening decisions, training leadership, and match support.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in outreach, volunteer coordination, community engagement, or a related field

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Comfortable meeting new people and representing the organization publicly

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

  • Experience working in nonprofit or volunteer-based environments preferred

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
