Position Title: Program Coordinator

Salary: $48,000 - $55,000 Per Year, Full Time

Location: Rochester, MN

Agency Description: Bolder Options is a transformational wellness-focused mentoring program operating in the Twin Cities and Rochester. Our mission is “Preparing youth to succeed in all of life’s races.” Our core mentoring program recruits adult volunteer mentors and pairs them with young people ages 10–14. Pairs meet weekly for one year while working toward youth-centered goals related to healthy living, social-emotional learning, community connectivity, and lifelong learning.

Bolder Options also offers a variety of programming for our alumni participants, including career and college exploration programs, leadership development, internships, scholarships, wellness programming, and community-building opportunities. Position Overview: The Program Coordinator is a flexible, relationship-centered role designed to support evolving program and organizational needs. This position may support one-to-one mentoring matches, alumni programming, group events, mentor engagement, recruitment activities, administrative coordination, or other youth development initiatives, depending on current staffing and program priorities.

This role is ideal for someone adaptable, proactive, highly dependable, and energized by a fast-paced community-based environment. Responsibilities may shift over time based on organizational needs, participant enrollment, staff capacity, and program growth opportunities.

At times, this role may focus heavily on supporting mentoring matches and participant support. At other times, the role may shift toward alumni engagement, career exploration programming, event coordination, volunteer engagement, or other emerging priorities.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Mentoring Program Support

  • Review and respond to youth referrals promptly.

  • Conduct interviews and orientations with youth participants, caregivers, and volunteer mentors.

  • Support mentor matching, match meetings, and enrollment processes.

  • Provide ongoing support and coaching to mentoring pairs through regular communication and relationship monitoring.

  • Assist with healthy closure processes for mentoring matches.

  • Support documentation, reporting, case notes, and program tracking requirements.

 

Alumni & Youth Development Programming

  • Support planning and implementation of alumni programming, career exploration, leadership development opportunities, and group events.

  • Build authentic relationships with youth participants and families.

  • Assist with outreach, engagement, transportation, event logistics, and participant communication.

  • Help identify opportunities for innovation, partnership development, and participant engagement.

 

Community Engagement & Organizational Support

  • Support mentor recruitment and community outreach activities.

  • Represent Bolder Options at community events, presentations, and agency activities.

  • Assist with agency-wide events, fundraising activities, and special projects.

  • Participate in team meetings, training opportunities, and collaborative planning efforts.

  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of organizational goals.

Working Conditions & Schedule Expectations

  • This is a Rochester-based, primarily in-person position. Staff are expected to work regularly from the office, schools, homes, and community settings. This is not a remote or primarily work-from-home role.

  • Schedule flexibility is required. This role includes daytime office work as well as frequent evening programming and occasional weekend events based on the availability of youth, caregivers, volunteers, and community partners.

  • This is a full-time salaried exempt position. Staff are expected to consistently work a full-time schedule of at least 40 hours per week and to take initiative in managing responsibilities, supporting team needs, and advancing organizational goals. Some weeks may require additional hours depending on programming needs and events.

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and acceptable driving record required. This role regularly involves driving throughout the Rochester area, including transporting youth and caregivers. Mileage reimbursement is provided for approved work-related travel, and rental vehicles may occasionally be available for certain activities or events.

  • Ability to lead and participate in physical activities such as hiking, biking, walking/running, swimming, canoeing, and other outdoor or active events.

Qualifications:

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in youth development, mentoring, education, recreation, social services, volunteer management, nonprofit work, or related fields preferred but not required.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.

  • Proficiency with technology and computer/mobile applications, especially Google Suite.

  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, initiative, and accountability.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a team.

  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

  • Skills, background, interest, and/or passion for holistic wellness, including exercise/movement, mental health, nutrition, and more.

  • Ability to prioritize, manage time, be resourceful, and take initiative to ensure goals are met.

  • Collaborative, supportive team player who is also self-motivated and accountable for tasks and responsibilities.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, highly relational environment that requires initiative, adaptability, responsiveness, and strong organizational skills.

  • Exercises sound judgment and decision-making.

  • Understanding of and/or prior experience working with nonprofit organizations.

  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Salary

$48,000 – $55,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. We benchmark salary ranges for roles and locations using the MN Council on Nonprofits' salary survey.
