This summer, Bolder Options youth stepped outside their comfort zones and into the wilderness for unforgettable Adventure Learning experiences. These trips are designed to help youth grow, lead, and discover what they are capable of, all while having a lot of fun along the way.

Adventure Learning is rooted in the Bolder Options mission. We create opportunities for youth to be BOLD, embrace healthy living, get moving and outdoors, build relationships and try something new through real experiences.

Why Adventure Learning Matters

These experiences are more than just trips. They are opportunities for growth where youth try something new, build confidence and leadership, connect with nature, and create lifelong memories with peers and mentors. Throughout the year, Bolder Options prepares youth for these moments by building skills like canoeing, swim safety, setting up a tent, and learning to fish, helping them succeed in the wilderness and beyond.

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Trip

In early July, five youth participated in a seven day, six night adventure in the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota. They spent their days canoeing across lakes, swimming, fishing, playing games, and fully embracing the outdoor experience.

Along the way, youth learned valuable skills such as outdoor cooking, setting up camp, hanging hammocks, and even catching and cleaning fish. More importantly, they built leadership, resilience, and teamwork that will stay with them long after the trip ended.

Adapting with a Bold Spirit

Our second planned Boundary Waters trip looked a little different this year. Due to wildfires in northern Minnesota, we made the decision to pivot in order to keep youth safe.

While the location changed, the experience did not. Youth still participated in an outdoor overnight adventure filled with canoeing, swimming, games, and connection. They continued building outdoor skills, confidence, and strong relationships with their peers and mentors.

This is what being bold looks like. When plans change, we adapt, grow, and keep moving forward.

This summer’s Adventure Learning trips were filled with fun, laughter, and unforgettable moments in the outdoors. From paddling across lakes to learning new skills and supporting one another, youth embraced every part of the experience. Along the way, they grew in confidence, independence, and leadership, building skills that will stay with them far beyond the trip. It was a truly bold journey, and one that will continue to shape who they become.
