Bolder Options mentorship can make all the difference in the life of a young person. Learn more about Bolder Options’ impact through Anthony’s story.
Anthony's childhood was marred by emotional and physical abuse at home. He turned to drugs and alcohol to cope with the anger and sadness that consumed him. But in his teens, he was introduced to Bolder Options through a caseworker and was matched with a mentor, Mike Fuith, who helped him turn his life around.
At first, Anthony wasn't impressed with Mike, who he thought was too young to give him advice. When he attempted suicide and was sent to an inpatient treatment facility, he felt abandoned by others. But to his surprise, Mike called him regularly to check on him, and when he got out, they resumed their mentoring relationship.
With Mike's guidance, Anthony found a new purpose in life. He stopped self-harming and started doing better in school. He realized that his existence mattered to someone, and that gave him hope for the future. Today, Anthony is happily married with a daughter, and he's grateful for the impact that Bolder Options had on his life.
"We're all running the same race of life, some of us just need a little help reaching the finish line."
Anthony's story is a testament to the power of mentorship and the importance of organizations like Bolder Options. Without them, many young people with difficult backgrounds may not have a positive person in their lives. Anthony encourages others to get involved in any way they can. As he says, "we're all running the same race of life, some of us just need a little help reaching the finish line."
